On Sunday 28 September, the Greater Springfield community came together in an incredible show of support at the 10km for $10k fun run, raising over $16,000 for cancer research through Icon Cancer Foundation.

Organised by Harcourts Real Estate Greater Springfield Group, the event was inspired by their Group Director, Rudy Grommen, who is currently undergoing treatment for stage four colorectal cancer at Icon Cancer Centre Springfield.

Thanks to the energy and generosity of the community, the event was a huge success, surpassing the initial $10,000 fundraising goal with more than 95 participants walking and running in support of Rudy and cancer research.

As runners and walkers arrived in the early morning at Robelle Domain in Springfield, there was an unmistakable sense of community.

Friends, family, local running clubs, Harcourts staff, and Icon Cancer Centre Springfield care team members came together, united by a shared goal to support cancer research and Rudy.

Speaking with Rudy, it was clear how moved he was by the outpouring of support from the Springfield community and the Harcourts team, particularly event lead and Harcourts Greater Springfield Group Marketing Manager Ashlee De La Cruz.

I’m so grateful for all the support we received, the day and the fundraising campaign has exceeded all my expectations and I’m extremely proud of Ashlee, who has been the driving force to make all this possible,” said Rudy.

Rudy’s determination to give back while facing his own cancer journey is nothing short of inspiring.

Amanda Waldon, Site Manager at Icon Cancer Centre Springfield, shares how his generosity has never wavered, from treating the Springfield team to lunch to thank them for their care, to organising this running event to give back and support others.

Rudy has spent years uplifting the Springfield community through countless fundraising efforts. Now, as he faces his own cancer journey with incredible courage and positivity, he’s organised this event to help others,” said Amanda.

As the final runner crossed the 10km finish line, Rudy addressed the crowd, sharing a heartfelt message of gratitude for the community who had stood by him.

This event was a powerful reminder that we are not alone in our mission to create a better future for people living with cancer.
