Walking together: ACORN honours Lesley Stewart’s legacy

Icon Cancer Foundation / 19 May, 2026

The Australian College of Perioperative Nurses (ACORN) created a special morning of remembrance, walking along Brisbane’s South Bank Boardwalk in honour of their friend, mentor and leader, Lesley Stewart while raising over $5000 for cancer research Icon Cancer Foundation.

Held as part of the ACORN 2026 Conference, the early morning walk invited delegates, supporters and family to celebrate the legacy of respective perioperative nurse Lesley, who’s contribution to the profession continues to benefit nurses across Australia.

Thanks to the generosity of attendees and supporters, more than $5,000 was raised for Icon Cancer Foundation, supporting blood cancer research and helping improve outcomes for patients and families facing cancer.

The cause held particular significance for the ACORN community, with Lesley having received care as a patient at the Icon Cancer Centre South Brisbane. Supporting the Icon Cancer Foundation through Lesley’s Walk was a meaningful way to honour her memory and recognise the care and support she experienced throughout her treatment. With the Brisbane River as the backdrop, the event celebrated not only Lesley’s legacy, but also the strength and spirit of the perioperative nursing community. It was a reminder that beyond the operating theatre, perioperative nurses continue to make a lasting impact in the lives of patients, colleagues and the wider community.

Icon Cancer Foundation thanks the ACORN community and everyone who participated, donated and supported the event, helping ensure Lesley’s legacy continues to inspire future generations of perioperative nurses.

Thank you to The Australia College of Perioperative Nurses for supporting Icon Cancer Foundation and organising Lesley’s Walk.
