Welcome to the Grateful Patient Program

Every day at Icon Cancer Centre, patients and families express gratitude for the care they receive. The Grateful Patient Program helps them do this in a meaningful way – and supports staff and doctors to respond with confidence, empathy and care.

Some patients want to take their gratitude a step further, to recognise exceptional care in a way that feels more personal and right for them.

The Grateful Patient Program provides a supported and ethical way for them to do this, offering a choice to share a message of thanks, or, if they wish, make a donation through Icon Cancer Foundation.

Sometimes, staff and doctors can feel unsure about how to respond when these conversations arise. This program helps make those moments a little easier, giving everyone clear guidance and support.

Program overview

Provides a supported pathway for patients and their families to express gratitude beyond saying ‘Thank You’.
Gives staff and doctors clear, simple guidance on how to respond when patients or families want to give back.
Offers patients and families the choice to share a message of thanks through the Grateful Patient portal and, if they wish, donate to ICF.
Supports emotional wellbeing by helping patients’ and families’ give thanks in a meaningful way.
Contributes to staff morale through shared messages of gratitude.

Remember, the Grateful Patient Program is not about asking for donations. The focus is on recognising gratitude and providing a pathway for patients to say thanks.

Messages of thanks

Patients and their families can now leave messages of thanks for the Icon nurses, doctors and staff who’ve made a difference in their care.

Messages sent through the portal will be reviewed and shared with the individuals and teams they’re written for, whether it’s a shoutout to a whole team or a personal thank you to someone who went that extra mile.
